Song of the Week: August

Some pretty (pimpin’) predictable choices this month. Among the four tracks I’ve selected are three new releases of note, singles from three albums I’m still on the fence about, and what just might be my favourite song of all time. But we’ll get to that…

Kurt Vile, Beirut and Tame Impala are three bands I admire and their new albums are all noteworthy, definitely worth a listen. But ask me to rank them, for instance, and I’d be bamboozled. My face would probably convey an unknowing homage to Zoolander’s Blue Steel and I’d edge away from you, in my attempts to avoid the question. I suppose what I’m trying to say is that all three artists have produced magic in the past yet with these attempts, I don’t hear it.

Simply put, despite being solid albums, my expectations have been set far too high. Which meant, towards the end of the month, I went back to listening to one of my favorite songs ever: All My Friends by LCD Soundsystem.
